Energy efficiency in older homes

Here at Joseph Millworks we respect old doors and windows for their superior craftsmanship, materials, and beauty. In fact all that we do currently is based on the same time-tested, age-old designs. However, there is one aspect where older doors and windows often do not hold up; thermal efficiency. We often receive inquiries from owners of craftsman style bungalows (among other styles) wondering how to solve this problem.

Luckily, we have a solution for those of you who appreciate the original doors and windows but would also like to have a well insulated home. We are able to build custom storm windows with insulated glass and weatherstripping that, in combination with your original windows, will often outperform a new insulated window. These storms are from close grain cedar or fir and can be divided to match the existing window divisions.

We also build storm doors with removable insulated glass inserts that can be interchanged with a screened insert for the summer.
